						To whom it may concern:
						VIA Rail has announced the elimination of service at Guildwood Station effective October 25, 2026 — with little notice and no meaningful public consultation.
This decision affects one of Toronto\'s most diverse and transit-dependent communities. Scarborough represents nearly a quarter of Toronto\'s population. Removing this rail connection does not make travel easier — it pushes more people onto an already congested Highway 401, increases emissions, and undermines decades of public investment in Guildwood Station, including recent upgrades.
The timing is particularly troubling. A major transit-oriented community is proposed adjacent to the station. The federal government has committed to ambitious high-speed rail investment. Cutting basic service now contradicts both.
We are asking you to take immediate action:
Demand that VIA Rail reverse the October 25 decision
Require meaningful public consultation before any future service reductions at Guildwood
Ensure accurate, objective impact data is made public before any decision is finalized
Scarborough residents should not have to keep defending essential infrastructure. We are asking you to stand up for us now.
