Multi-tenant housing – we need answers

Multi-Tenant Housing in Scarborough — We Need Answers

Dear Residents

The City of Toronto\'s new regulatory framework for multi-tenant houses came into effect March 31, 2024. Two years in, Scarborough residents deserve to know whether it\'s actually working in our neighbourhoods.

Multi-tenant houses provide critical affordable housing for low-income residents and equity-deserving groups across Scarborough. The framework promised consistent standards, enhanced licensing, and meaningful enforcement. Those are the right goals. But promises on paper don\'t protect tenants.

We are asking you, as our ward councillor, to request a status report specifically addressing Scarborough — including:

  • How many multi-tenant house operators in your ward are currently licensed?
  • How many remain unlicensed, and what enforcement action is underway?
  • How many inspections have been completed in Scarborough since March 2024?

Scarborough residents deserve the same accountability as the rest of Toronto. We\'re asking you to get us those numbers.
